Thelma Cela serves as the Director of Clinical Operations of OrthoNOW®, the country’s only orthopedic urgent care center franchise. She holds a degree in Psychology from the University of Miami. Thelma has over two decades of experience in the healthcare industry and has previously held senior positions in such leading organizations as Leon Medical Centers and Mercy Hospital. As the Director of Clinical Operations she is responsible for clinical policies and procedures and monitoring healthcare policy changes. Thelma is a lifelong resident of Miami and has also served on the healthcare business council of the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and is a graduate of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Class XV.
Dr. Alejandro Badia, FACS, is a hand and upper extremity surgeon at Badia Hand to Shoulder Center in Doral, Florida. Badia served as worldwide president of ISSPORTH and co- founded the world renowned Miami Anatomical Research and Training Center (M.A.R.C.) and The Surgery Center at Doral. After years of a successful medical career and a renowned international speaking legacy, he saw a need for specialized orthopedic urgent care centers to immediately assess and treat a range of orthopedic and sports injuries and founded OrthoNOW®, the only orthopedic care franchise in the country.
Lisa Boccia, CFRE is the Executive Director with the Arthritis Foundation in Miami and has worked with the Foundation in Washington, DC and Baltimore. Lisa has spearheaded fundraising and community health education initiatives with nonprofit organizations for nearly 20 years. Some organizations include the American Diabetes Association, Alzheimer’s Association and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Lisa earned her Bachelors of Arts degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Sophia Deben, completed a 7 year tour of duty with the United States Navy, to include a combat tour in Iraq, she returns to her home in Miami, Florida to serve her community. She is an active member of the community, mentoring future physicians, as well as an avid tennis player. She is also a first-generation American from Cuban born parents, and is proud to be serving the community that offered her the opportunity to see the world and realize her dreams of becoming a surgeon. She is experienced in treating ankle and foot arthritis, flatfoot disease, plantar fasciitis, heel pain, Achilles tendon disorders, ankle instability, osteochondral defects of the talus, foot and ankle fractures, bunions, hammertoes and chronic wounds. She also has extensive experience in PRP injections (platelet-rich plasma) and stem cell injections.
Dr. Carlos Sesin, is chief of the Division of Arthritis and Rheumatology at Mount Sinai Medical Center and has 13 years of experience treating patients with rheumatic diseases. Dr. Sesin specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. He is skilled in performing joint aspirations and joint injections, and in utilizing intravenous therapy to reduce painful inflammation and swelling of the joints and muscles. He completed his residency at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston and a fellowship in rheumatology at New York University’s Hospital of Joint Diseases.
Dr. Joseph Tobin is Medical Director for OrthoNOW Savannah and OrthoNOW pooler. He’s a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon for almost twenty years in Hilton Head, SC, and Pooler, GA. With a fellowship in total joint arthroplasty he performs total shoulder, hip, and knee primary and revision arthroplasty surgeries while also seeing many general orthopaedic cases including arthroscopies, rotator cuff repairs, hand cases, and fracture care. As a founding member of the Outpatient Surgery Center of Hilton Head, he has been instrumental in the development of a successful multispecialty surgery center operating 600 cases per month since 2006. Dr. Tobin was appointed Chairman, Advisory Committee of the Arthritis Foundation of the Carolinas, Low Country Region.
